Patriots sign Ricky Brown

The Patriots added depth add linebacker.  They signed Boston College product Ricky Brown today.

Brown spent his first five years in Oakland, mostly as a reserve.  He started thirteen of the fifty-five games he appeared in.

New England has been dealing with some injury issues at LB.  Starter Brandon Spikes hasn’t played yet this preseason, and rookie free agents Jeff Tarpinian and Christian Cox have also missed time.

Here’s the team’s press release on the signing:

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots signed veteran LB Ricky Brown today. Terms of the contract were not announced.

Brown, 6-2, 235 pounds, is a veteran of five NFL seasons with the Oakland Raiders. Originally signed by Oakland as a rookie free agent out of Boston College in 2006, Brown has played in 55 career games with 13 starts as a reserve linebacker and special teams player and has accumulated 102 total tackles, four passes defensed and three forced fumbles.

Last season with Oakland, Brown played in 14 games with one start and finished with 13 total tackles and one pass defensed.
